Greenwood School Board Hears Update on School Operations Plan

The Greenwood School Board heard an update on the School Operations Plan.

There was no update to the plan from last month. The Board also received additional information regarding the district-sponsored reading teacher licensing program. District has received a Memorandum of Understanding from Viterbo University. The program will start this summer.

The Board also approved the updated 10-year Capital Improvement Plan, received an update on ESSER funds, approved the school forest timber harvest bid request, and approved the removal of large tree at the elementary school.

The Board also approved the 2021-22 Budget transfers, received the 2022-23 Budget update, approved the 2022-23 Health Insurance Renewal, and approved the waving of Fund 80 utility costs.

The Board also approved a resolution to endorse CESA 10’s request to sell CESA 10’s Lot 1 parcel and approved the NEOLA Policy Special Update regarding Nondiscrimination.

After being in executive session, the board approved increasing base teacher pay to $38,500 beginning 2022-23, approved salary increase of $1,350 for the Business Manager and Athletic Director/Dean of Students, and approved the hiring of Shane Lilly as elementary principal with employment beginning July 1st.

The Board also accepted a $945 Suicide Prevention Grant for the WI DPI, approved 10 volunteers, and accepted the resignation of Cheyenne Thompson as a 5th grade teacher. The Board also accepted the retirement of Deanna Jordan as the 4th grade teacher.

The Board approved the employment of Cary Bryhn as the Middle School Softball coach, Justin Friedel as a substitute custodian, Nolan Matson as a long-term substitute High School Study Hall Supervisor, Amanda Schlough as a High School Assistant Track Coach, Elena Torres Konopa as a food service substitute, and Kelsey Hoverson as the 3-Act play stage/technical director.

The Board also heard a presentation from Kaitlyn Keech, the School Counselor, and Katie Brand, the Director of Special Education and School Psychologist, regarding a suicide prevention grant and other programs and plans to address student mental health.

The Board also heard the Committee Reports. Board Member Mark Shain reported on CESA 10 news. Board member Jerome Krempasky highlighted the Employee Relations Committee is reviewing committee purpose, employee handbooks, and teacher appreciation event supplemental pay model. The Buildings and Grounds Committee reported on the proposed summer projects.

The Board also heard the Elementary Principal’s Report. Joe Green shared that the US Department of Education Blue Ribbon School application was recently submitted, elementary volleyball completed its first season, and forward testing is underway.

District Administrator Todd Felhofer reported that Governor Evers signed a bill to add September 11th to the list of Observance Days for WI schools. Unofficial school board election results were shared. Area 1, Jamie Gardner, (unopposed) and Area 4, Jessica Wolf, 218 votes and Vince Morales, 216 votes. Outgoing board members Dawn Jacobson and Rebecca Greisen were recognized for their service.

Vape detectors will be installed soon. State testing has also begun at the MS/HS. The 3rd quarter D/F list showed improvement.
