The Neillsville Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire Saturday afternoon.

According to Neillsville Fire Chief Matt Meyer, they received a report of a grass fire around 1pm on Saturday, April 9th, ½ miles east of County Highway G on South Mound Road on the south side of the road. They were on scene for 45 minutes and had no injuries on their part.

The fire occurred in a field and was being done by the owner who was simply burning the field. However, he didn’t notify the Clark County Sheriff’s Department that he was burning, so the Fire Department was paged.

Chief Meyer reminds residents that if they’re going to be doing a controlled burn, they must notify the Clark County Sheriff’s Department they’re burning, so the Fire Department isn’t paged to the fire. If they are called to the fire, regardless of the situation, there is a charge for the call.
