Tiffany Leis, an employee with Search and Recovery Engineering in Black River Falls will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in August.

Search and Recovery Engineering is a family-run small business providing outdoor recreation and rescue equipment.

Kilimanjaro is one of the seven summits and highest mountains in Africa. Tiffany began our interview by explaining how she began the process to climb the mountain.

Tiffany, along with one of her friends and several people from across the world, is climbing as part of a group called Summits With A Purpose - a nonprofit group with the mission of encouraging African youth to participate in exploration, education, outdoor activities, and entrepreneurship as they contribute to the economic wellbeing of their communities. Summits With Purpose provides improved educational resources, nutrition, outdoor facilities and access to opportunities of adventure to the youth of Africa.

Their expedition leader is Saray N’kusi Khumalo, who is the first black African woman to summit Mt. Everest and ski to the South Pole.

The climb is scheduled to take place over one week, 5 days for the ascent and 2 days for the descent. But Tiffany's journey begins with a 27-hour flight, followed by a safari.

Tiffany said that if anyone has any questions about her climb, or how they can do a climb like this as well, they can simply reach out and ask.
