Bird Flu Detected in Another Wisconsin Flock

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has announced that a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a backyard chicken flock in Rock County.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, this is the second such case of HPAI in domestic birds this year after a commercial chicken farm in Jefferson County reportedly contracted the disease earlier in March.
State animal health officials say DATCP is working with the USDA on a joint incident response. Birds on the property have already been depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HPAI does not present an immediate public health concern; and does not pose a food safety risk.
Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced last week that the highly pathogenic EA H5 avian flu strain has been detected in wild birds throughout Dane, Columbia, Grant and Polk Counties.
