Wednesday, April 12th, 2006 -- 8:28 AM
Outdoorsmen and women have spoken, and they support a proposal banning baiting and feeding deer 10 days before and during the 9-day gun deer season.DNR officials say around 5,300 people participated in Monday?s Spring Fish and Wildlife Rules Hearings and Conservation Congress county meetings that were held in each county.
Participants passed 67 of 74 rule proposals and advisory questions, including the somewhat controversial proposal to ban baiting and feeding deer for 10 days before and during the 9-day gun deer season passed. The measure actually passed easily, 3,198 to 1,977.
The hearings are held annually in every county of the state on the second Monday of April. In addition to voting on proposed rules or changes to rules, delegates to the Wisconsin Conservation Congress are elected. The Conservation Congress was established by the Wisconsin Legislature in 1934 as a citizen body to advise the Natural Resources Board (NRB) on fish and wildlife management issues and policy.
