Tommy Thompson Meets With Former President

Friday, April 1st, 2022 -- 12:00 PM

(Bob Hague, WRN) As he ponders another run for office, former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson meets with former president Donald Trump.

Thursday’s meeting at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida comes as Thompson considers getting into the Republican primary for governor. People familiar with Thompson’s plans confirmed the meeting to media outlets including the Journal Sentinel.

Wisconsin’s longest serving governor last held elective office in 2001, when he became secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the George W. Bush administration.

He ran for U.S. Senate in 2012, losing to Tammy Baldwin. Most recently, the 80-year-old Thompson served as interim president of the University of Wisconsin System.
