Recently Passed Ag Appropriations Bill Will Help Wisconsin Farmers

Friday, April 1st, 2022 -- 8:05 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin says the recently passed Agriculture Appropriations bill, which was included in the bipartisan Omnibus Appropriations Legislation for Fiscal Year 2022, will help Wisconsin farmers.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the Madison Democrat, who serves as the chair of the Senate Ag Appropriations Subcommittee, says the spending packing provides discretionary funding of $25 billion. The bill includes significant funding to address challenges faced by Wisconsinites.

Among the provisions are $39.7 million for the new Plant Germplasm Research Facility at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which Baldwin says these provisions includes key investments in research and extension services for Wisconsin's agriculture industry, and increases research funding for dairy, cranberries, potatoes, barley, pulses, and hemp.

Other earmarks include $25 million for the Dairy Business Innovation Initiative and $14 million designated for the Grazing Lands Conservation Program.
