USDA's Monthly Crop Weather Report for March

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin saw ordinary winter conditions with typical activities during most of the past month.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the USDA's monthly crop weather report, which stated snow cover is disappearing in many areas and frost is slowly coming out of the ground. Producers hope recent rains will ease drought conditions.

The report also noted that the maple syrup season has begun, but the sap is still running slowly. Farmers are also spending their time feeding livestock and applying manure to some fields as well as preparing machinery.

Meanwhile, input costs for 2022 crops, particularly fertilizer, are a concern for farmers. In central and southern areas of the state, winter grains and cover crops are greening up and beginning to grow.

The agency releases a winter crop weather summary on the first Tuesday of the month in December, January, February and March.
