Saturday, April 8th, 2006 -- 5:36 PM
One person was taken to the hospital with burns as a blaze destroyed much of an area car dealership Saturday.Assistant Fire Chief Roger Nitschke reports the Granton Fire Department was called to K & H Auto, located between Granton and Loyal on the corner of Clark County Highways ?K? and ?H?. The fire was reported at 11:41 a.m. Saturday morning. The building was completely engulfed in flames by the time the crew arrived.
Much of the building, which was divided into three sections, was destroyed or severely damaged, but the department was able to save some of the structure.
Nitschke says the cause of the fire remains unclear, but it apparently started as an employee was working on a vehicle in the shop area. He was transported to St. Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield with burns, but his condition was not believed life-threatening.
Two other employees were able to escape the building uninjured. Two vehicles and many tools were consumed by the flames.
The fire also triggered several explosions of chemical and paint containers.
The Granton Fire Department remained on the scene for about four hours and received assistance from the Loyal Fire Department. No crew members were injured.
