Governor Evers Signs Bill Making Transfer of Ag Equipment Easier
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022 -- 9:00 AM
(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Legislation that would simplify the process of transferring agricultural equipment on to someone else when its owner becomes deceased has been signed into law.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, Gov. Tony Evers signed SB 893 on Friday, which allows farm implements to be transferred through a process called 'Transfer on Death,' or TOD, through written designation of a beneficiary and witnesses.
Sen. Joan Ballweg of Markesan authored the Nonprobate Transfer of Farming Implements at death measure. She says under current law, beneficiaries must receive assets like farm machinery after the probate process is complete, which is an often lengthy formal legal process.
The bill was supported by various Wisconsin farm groups.
