Audio - 1:12District 18 Supervisor Maryanne Olson has spent 10 years representing parts of the Towns of York and Loyal. She was defeated by Bill Elmhorst - a familiar foe ? who failed to win the seat in three prior elections. Olson served on many committees, chairing the Social Services and Aging Committees.
?I do not believe in dirty politics. I run a clean campaign. If this is what the people wish, this is the way it will be,? Olson says.
She says she?s learned a lot in the past ten years, but worries about the direction the County may be headed after Tuesday?s election.
?I?m concerned. I?m not surprised. They campaigned heavily. I won?t say they were honest about a lot of things,? Olson laments.
Elmhorst says he was ?humbled? by the result. ?I?m very grateful. The people made their choice. I really believe a big part of it was the Smart Growth issue,? Elmhorst, a comprehensive planning critic, said Tuesday.
Now, Elmhorst wants to scale back the county?s budget, starting with administration.
?We're not going to have a massive coup here, but there are a few that may have to step down and there are a couple departments that will have to be phased out,? Elmhorst predicted. ?I expect we're going to lose a few (department heads).?
Elmhorst would not say which departments or department heads he wants to cut.
