State Democrats Want to Expand "Public Option" for BadgerCare

(Bob Hague, WRN) Democrats in the Wisconsin Legislature want an expanded “public option” for BadgerCare.
Representative Christina Shelton of Green Bay stated, “Yes, the BadgerCare Public Option Act is about savings. It’s about moving money away from a health care system that is driven by profit, and instead prioritizing the health and wellness of everyday Wisconsinites. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen with clarity that our current health care systems have left too many behind, especially when they need health care the most.”
The proposal would create a public health coverage option through BadgerCare for individuals and small employers and create a new Basic Health Plan for individuals making 130-to-200 percent of the Federal Poverty Line.
The current legislative session is nearly over, and the bill is unlikely to get any support from Republicans.
