Plan for New Youth Corrections Facility Likely Going Nowhere

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) A plan to build a new 41 million dollar youth corrections facility in Milwaukee is likely going nowhere.
A bill that would approve borrowing for the plan was in the State Senate on Tuesday, but Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says that local and county governments are already building smaller youth facilities.
"Build your own facility so that we see the reduction in the number of kids who are there, so eventually we don't see a need for the same size State Facility. That's moving its way through the process as we had anticipated."
Vos says there's no support for the measure on his side of the Legislature. "So it's very challenging for us to just say we're going to pass a bill with a bunch of money without a site to have it actually go, without the due diligence that happens, and that has to happen from the Evers administration."
Plans to close Lincoln Hills in northern Wisconsin have been in the works since 2018.
