New figures from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture show that 58,200 total acres of snap beans were picked in the Badger State in 2021, with a total production of 6.69 million per hundredweight.
The agency says production of snap beans for processing was 320,929 tons and was valued at $35 million. That's compared to $26.1 million a year earlier. Wisconsin maintained its number one ranking in production of processing snap beans with 44 percent of the nation's market share. Sweet corn growers harvested 9.58 million cwt. from 53,200 acres last year. Fresh market production totaled 459,600 cwt. and was valued at $16.5 million. Processing production accounted for 449,114 tons and had a value of $36.5 million. The state remained in third place nationally for processed sweet corn production.
Wisconsin farmers produced 1.20 million cwt of green peas. There were 26,300 acres harvested. The 59,775 tons of processing green pea production had a value of $17.9 million. Producers also grew 1.48 million cwt of carrots in 2021 from 2,900 harvest acres worth $8.05 million; and harvested 6,500 acres of cucumbers valued at $18 million. (Wisconsin Ag Connection)
