RUDY MAKES INITIAL APPEARANCE ON HOMICIDE, DISMEMBERMENT CHARGES
Thursday, March 23rd, 2006 -- 3:54 PM
Shaun Rudy made his initial appearance Thursday on charges he killed his wife, Christine, and her unborn child and then dismembered the body to hide the crime. Also in the courtroom for the first time were Ed and Carol Lee, the alleged victim?s parents, who were likely seeing their former son-in-law in person for the first time since days after their daughter went missing.
Shaun Rudy?s Attorney, David Grace, told the court his client was not in possession of the ?very lengthy? criminal complaint. He had his client sign a document waiving the time limits on the preliminary hearing and said he wanted a week to ten days to evaluate the complaint before deciding if he?d recommend waiving the hearing.
A status and scheduling conference was set for April 7th at 3:30 p.m. on the two counts of 1st-degree intentional homicide and the charge of dismembering a body to conceal evidence.
Clark County Circuit Court Judge Jon Counsel also scheduled a jury trial on unrelated drug paraphernalia and firearm charges brought against Rudy days after he reported Christine missing.
Grace, who took the case when Public Defender William Poss withdrew based on ?ethical? and ?professional? considerations, said his client may still elect to plead to those charges, but they?d not discussed it.
The trial is scheduled for June 6th.
Rudy remains incarcerated at the Clark County jail on a probation revocation warrant.
