(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin's agribusiness sector continues to make a big impact on the rest of the world.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the latest figures from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection shows that farm product exports from Wisconsin reached a record $3.9 billion in 2021; and the best year for shipments abroad since 2013 when sales reached $3.7 billion.
"Despite some recent years of trade disruptions and supply chain challenges, I am proud of how Wisconsin's agriculture industry has remained resilient and competitive in providing high-quality agricultural products to the world," said State Agriculture Secretary Randy Romanski. "This record-breaking year presents an incredible opportunity and the momentum needed to strengthen our state as a leader for agricultural exports.
The state's top customers last year were Canada, China and Japan, respectively. But we also exported agricultural products to more than 145 other countries.
The agency says all product categories saw large increases in sales from 2020, with dairy products up by 14.6 percent and meat products at 10.4 percent. Crop product sales increased the most by 20.4 percent.
During 2020, Wisconsin ranked 13th among U.S. states in food, forestry, and agricultural exports.
