Ribbon Cutting for New Wall Honoring Veterans in Marshfield

A new wall honoring our veterans will be celebrated by a ribbon cutting ceremony in Marshfield's Community Center on Presidents' Day, Monday, February 21, 2022 at 2 p.m.

The Veterans Wall of Honor lists over 2,200 deceased veterans names from Marshfield displayed on a patriotic wall. The display is located across from the Parks and Recreation office on the north end of the center.

The project is spearheaded by local resident and alderman Tom Buttke along with his two sisters, Renie Rehmer, Cathy Tauschek, Alan and Connie Jonett along with dozens of volunteers Buttke recruited for the project. "I am not a veteran but these people really need to recognized like everybody else. It's going to be great and people will be proud," said Buttke.

The process started little over three years ago when Buttke and his sisters visited a local cemetery and found that a lot of the veterans didn't have any recognition on their grave sites for their military service. That day gave Buttke the spark to do something for those veterans.

It didn't take long for Buttke to gather volunteers and begin fundraising efforts by holding brat fry's, applying for grants and seeking out donations. Donations for the project are being handled by the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, and information can be found by visiting their website at https://www.marshfield.foundation or calling Tom Buttke at 715-897-1604.

"I have a great committee and they have done such a tremendous job, without their hard work this would of never happened," said Buttke. The ceremony is open to the public and encouraged to visit the site.
