Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules Against Ballot Drop Boxes for April Election
Monday, February 14th, 2022 -- 8:00 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) The Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled against use of ballot drop boxes in the April election.
Conservative Justice Brian Hagedorn had joined his three liberal colleagues in an earlier ruling that the drop boxes could be used in the February primary, because voters would be confused by changing procedures on short notice.
But on Friday Hagedorn and his fellow conservatives ruled against use of absentee ballot drop boxes the April 5th election, stating that the state elections commission has adequate time to educate voters on the change.
A Waukesha County judge last month sided with the plaintiffs a suit to block drop boxes in elections. A state appeals court then issued a stay before the state Supreme Court was asked to take over the case.
