(Bob Hague, WRN) An electric utility with customers in Wisconsin plans major reductions in carbon emissions from its Upper Midwest operations.
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has approved Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy’s plan to cut carbon emissions from electricity provided in the region by over 85 percent in eight years. That includes customers in western Wisconsin.
Xcel’s Upper Midwest Energy Plan includes several elements, including retiring all of its coal plants in the region by 2030. Several other utilities serving Wisconsin also have targeted carbon emissions reductions over a similar timeline.
