3.50 Million Head of Cattle and Calves in Wisconsin as of January 1st

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) All cattle and calves in Wisconsin as of January 1 totaled 3.50 million head.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the USDA's latest cattle report, which stated that was up 50,000 head from the same time a year earlier.
State cattleman has 295,000 beef cows on hand last month, which is about 5,000 head more than in early 2021. Milk cow inventory was up 15,000 head at 1.28 million. The number of heifers 500 pounds and over were up two percent at 830,00 head.
Heifers for beef cow replacement were up six percent from 2021 at 90,000 head; heifers for milk cow replacement, at 660,000 head, were unchanged from the previous year; and all other heifers were up 23 percent at 80,000 head.
Meanwhile, the total number of steers weighing 500 pounds and over were up 11 percent from last year at 400,000 head. Bulls weighing 500 pounds and over were unchanged at 30,000 head.
Calves under 500 pounds on January 1 totaled 670,000 head, down four percent from last year. The 2021 calf crop was estimated at 1.40 million head, down one percent from the 2020 calf crop.
Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter in all feedlots in January totaled 270,000 head, up eight percent from one year ago.
