Legislation Regarding School Curriculum and Staff Training on Race Heading to Governor Evers
Wednesday, January 26th, 2022 -- 9:00 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) Legislation dealing with school curriculum and staff training on race is headed to the governor.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers is expected to veto the Republican bill, which passed the Senate on Tuesday with just one Republican (Senator Howard Marklein) voting no. Under the legislation, K-12 public schools would not be allowed to teach students, or to provide employee training, on systemic racism and bias.
While the legislation does not include the phrase “critical race theory,” the bill from Senator Andre Jacque and Representative Chuck Wichgers is similar in intent to bills approved in others states.
The Assembly passed the Wisconsin measure last year.
