Clark County Highway Department Offers Winter Tips Regarding Mailboxes and Plowing Driveways
Monday, January 10th, 2022 -- 2:00 PM
The Clark County Highway Department offers County residents some winter tips regarding mailboxes and plowing driveways.
Please make sure your mailbox is in good condition and can withstand typical Wisconsin winter conditions. If your mailbox receives plow damage during winter maintenance snow plowing operations, you can contact the Highway Department 743-3680.
Repair or replacement may be considered only if it is determined that plow equipment came into direct contact with the mailbox. If it is determined that the mailbox was damaged by snow, ice, or other debris, even if coming off the plow, the Highway Department will not repair or replace the mailbox. Mailboxes cannot be placed or installed on the shoulder of the highway. All mailboxes must conform to United States Postal Service regulations.
Also, the Highway Department reminds residents it is dangerous and illegal to push snow out of a driveway and across the lanes of traffic of any public highway. It is also illegal to leave snow removed from driveways on the highway, shoulder or ditch.
The property owner may be held liable for injuries and property damage caused by snow pushed on a roadway or shoulder, which causes an accident or damage to snow plow equipment.
