USDA's Monthly Crop Weather Report for December
Thursday, January 6th, 2022 -- 8:12 AM
(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Long term drought conditions continued across much of southern Wisconsin, despite a winter storm system in mid-December that brought record high temperatures across the state.
According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the USDA's monthly crop weather report, which is released on the first Tuesday of the month in December, January, February, and March.
There were some reports of wind and tornado damage to buildings, fences, and irrigation equipment. December temperatures were mostly above normal, as was precipitation for most of the state.
Unlike last winter, very few fields still have standing crops. Alfalfa and winter wheat fields could use more snow cover, but the relatively mild December weather has likely prevented serious ice damage so far.
