Omicron Variant Could Add More Pressure to Wisconsin Hospitals

(Bob Hague, WRN) The Omicron variant of COVID-19 could add to the pressures on Wisconsin hospitals.
UW Health Dr. Jeff Pothof spoke with 27 News. “It creates both a current situation and a future prediction, that suggests we will run out of health care resources.”
Pothof says while Omicron does appear to cause less severe symptoms, it’s also more easily transmissible, meaning more people will get it. “If we’re not able to control transmission, it’s possible that we’ll see an increase in hospitalizations, because so many more people are infected.”
Both UW Health and Bellin Health are running at 100 percent capacity most days. Both health care systems are urging the public to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
