Wisconsin Milk Production Rose in November

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Total milk production in Wisconsin rose during November when compared to the same time last year, the ninth straight month of consecutive increases.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the USDA's latest milk production report, Wisconsin farmers produced 2.55 billion pounds during the month, up 2.2 percent from last November, but lower than the 2.65 billion made in October 2021, which had more days on the calendar.

Nationally, 17.3 billion pounds of milk was produced in the 24 major dairy states for the month. That was down fractionally from 2020, and lower than the previous month's 17.7 billion.

Meanwhile, the number of milk cows on farms in the 24 major states was 8.89 million head, 24,000 head less than November 2020, and 8,000 head less than October 2021.

The average number of milk cows on Wisconsin farms for the month was 1.28 million head, about the same as last month, but 18,000 over last year. Monthly production per cow averaged 2,000 pounds, which was 15 pounds per cow more than last year's figures.
