CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MEETS

Neillsville?s Economic Development Commission met last night. It was their first meeting since news broke that Fleetguard Inc. plans to close their Neillsville muffler facility.200 jobs will be lost as the company phases out the plant beginning this spring.
Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting News the Commission wants to hire 3D Strategies of Eau Claire to do additional marketing of the city. The Commission recommended to the full council that an additional $12,500 be spent to allow 3D to continue direct marketing on the city?s behalf.
The Commission also recommended approving a $50,000 loan be issued to Arizona Phelps. Phelps plans on purchasing Doc?s Diner and the adjacent Neillsville Mercantile. The business? current owner has an outstanding loan issued through the city?s revolving loan fund and plans to pay it off in full when the sale is complete.
