Wisconsin Rapids Paper Plant Being Sold, But Production Might Not Resume

(Mike Leischner of WSAU, WRN) The Verso plant in Wisconsin Rapids is being sold after all, although with no guarantee for production.
Scandinavian papermaker BillerudKorsnäs will take over Verso for 27 dollars per share, or over 825 million dollars, in mid-20-22 with plans to create one of the most cost-efficient and sustainable paperboard platforms in North America.
A release specified plans for two Verso mills in Michigan, but made no mention of plans for their Wisconsin Rapids facility, only acknowledging that the facility is idled.
The facility has been shuttered since mid-20-20, with only a few employees on payroll to perform light maintenance on the machines in case there is a chance to restart the plant, which employed hundreds at the time it was shut down.
