Granton School Board Approves School Safety Checklist

The Granton School Board approved a School Safety Checklist.

The Board approved Wisconsin Act 143 School Safety Requirement Checklist for 2021-22, approved exploration experience for Middle School Wrestling for the 2021-22 school year, and approved a motion to hire Grant Writer USA for Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Innovative Grant pending approval of the Granton Area School Foundation funding.

The Board also discussed the 2022-23 school calendar, but no action was taken. The Board also approved the family medical leave for Jessica Schier, approved hiring Hunter Vine as the assistant JV boys basketball coach, and approved hiring Steven Johansen as an Elementary Special Ed teacher.

The Board also approved the Granton Community Child Care Center employee retention compensation benefit as presented and approved compensation utilizing COVID relief funds as recommended by administration.

For the Spotlight on Education, Instructional Coach Kim Aumann and Principal Amanda Kraus presented information on the Granton School Report Card. The Granton Area School District Report Card, Granton Elementary Report Card and the High School Report Card all achieved a level of Four Stars or Exceeds Expectations.

For the Student of the Month, Sarah Seif is for the Elementary, Taylor Herhalen for the Middle School, and Tanner Friedemann for the High School. For the Staff of the Month, John Legrid is recognized for the trait of Kindness.

In the absence of a Student Council Representative due to the Choir & Band Concert, Principal Amanda Kraus reported on student activities including the FFA fruit sale, FFA Annual 4th Grade skit, Winter sport practices and games, Student Council butter braid sales, NHS Food Drive, and Choir & Band Field Trip to Fireside Theater.

The Board also heard School Board Committee Reports. Dan Hebert, Athletic Director, presented information regarding baseball and track. Board member Cheryl Steinbach reported Granton Area School Foundation Grant applications have been provided to staff. The Foundation will have a Staff Appreciation Dinner on January 15, 2022.

Board member Dennis Kuehn, Robby Roehl, Maintenance Director and James Kuchta, District Administrator, met with MSA regarding the parking lot proposal. Board member, Dennis Kuehn and District Administrator, James Kuchta provided an update on the tree removal project by the two-way radio tower.

The Board also heard a Strategic Plan Update. Principal Amanda Kraus reported teaching staff have started utilizing new educational thematic based learning, in their classrooms, as a result of visiting other school districts that have had success with this type of learning.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Report. Principal Kraus updated the board on the Christmas Store, Holiday Concerts, and January Reinforcement Day.

Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on extra aid money from the DPI, the TEACH Grant purchase of 120 Chromebooks and 50 I-Pads, a new custodian hired, a fraud attempt thwarted, Focus on Energy Funds received, a GCCCC Update & Grant information, an Asbestos plan in the building, flooring bids for the kitchen, a kitchen ventilation upgrade proposal & flooring bids, and an HVAC upgrade proposal.
