Around 20,000 Applicants for Latest Round of Wisconsin Farm Support Program Grants

Thursday, December 9th, 2021 -- 9:00 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) Wisconsin's revenue secretary says the recent application period for the latest round of Wisconsin Farm Support Program grants was extremely active.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, Peter Barca told the Wisconsin Farm Report on Tuesday that roughly 20,000 online applications have been submitted to the Department of Revenue website between November 8-19.

"We have already approved 15,449 applications and we think about 19,000 will qualify when all is said and done," Barca told the radio network. "We're getting close to putting that money in the mail and helping farmers have a brighter Christmas."

Farmers whose gross income ranged between $10,000 to $5 million during the 2020 tax year were eligible to apply. Meanwhile, the DOT will began mailing checks to qualifying applicants on December 17.

Barca estimates that the average payout will be $2,500 per farm. The purpose of the aid payments is to help Wisconsin farmers who have experienced economic loss due to the pandemic, regardless of the type of commodities they grow or raise.

A similar program last year disbursed over $50 million to 18,000 applicants, with most of the payments being in the amount of $3,500.
