Scammers Still Out for Your Money, But Using Different Tactics
Monday, December 6th, 2021 -- 9:03 AM
(Raymond Neupert, WRN) Scammers are still out for your money, but phone calls claiming to be from the I R S are on the decline.
I R S spokesman Christopher Miller says that scammers have moved on to using other tactics. "Using words like covid and stimulus payments which of course are unique words for these unique times." Miller says those scammers have instead moved on to exploiting the pandemic to get your money and information.
"In fact in Wisconsin alone this year the Federal Trade Commission reports some 6,000 cases of Fraud and ID theft where those two specific words covid and stimulus were used."
Miller says that, as always, no legitimate government agency or group will ask you for gift cards or banking information over the phone or through a text message.
