GREENWOOD BOARD SAYS 'NO' TO DETACHMENT
Friday, February 17th, 2006 -- 11:00 AM
Organizers of an attempt to detach a small portion of the Town of Seif from the Greenwood School District will have to wait.As expected, the Greenwood school board unanimously voted this week to deny the detachment request. Most of the Town is already in the Neillsville school district, but a small corner is in the Greenwood district.
Citing high taxes and dwindling class offerings, residents gathered the needed signatures to detach from Greenwood and attach to Neillsville.
There are currently about eleven students and $3-million of property in the Greenwood district?s section of the township.
Neillsville?s board recently approved the attachment, but Greenwood?s board refused. Greenwood superintendent Marcia Hochalter says the group could now appeal the decision to the Department of Public Instruction?s Boundary Appeals Board.
