DNR Stepping Up Testing for CWD as Gun Deer Season Approaches

(Raymon Neupert, WRN) As the Department of Natural Resources gears up for the 9-day gun deer hunt, they're stepping up testing for Chronic Wasting Disease.
Wildlife specialist Amanda Kamps says the easiest way to get your deer tested is to drop off the deer's head at any collection point. "We do have a map available as well just to highlight where all those areas are, but of course any hunter that's interested in getting their deer tested is able to do that through a number of our CWD sampling options."
Kamps says the easiest way to do that is at one of the easy collection points across the state. "Leave a deer head at the kiosk, And then our staff or volunteers that assist us will pick up samples and bring them to the processing center where the lymph node samples will be extracted and then sent to the lab for testing."
Kamps says you can drop off your deer head at a collection kiosk, but there are other ways of getting your deer tested. "There are some cooperators like taxidermists and meat processors that help us with collecting C W D samples, DNR staff or Wildlife Management across the state and every county are available to assist Hunters directly."
You can find collection points online from a map at D N R dot W I dot GOV or on the Go Wild app.
