Deer Hunters Reminded to Take Care of Their Health Before the Hunt

Monday, November 8th, 2021 -- 11:00 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) The fall deer hunt is quickly approaching and the Department of Natural Resources is reminding hunters to take care of their health before getting out into the woods.

Conservation Warden Jon King says hunters should be sure to stretch and get acquainted with being out in the woods again. "We do see every year a few hunters that have heart issues or health issues so definitely want to take care of your health and just prepare yourself."

King says it's important to make sure that you're prepared to both get in and out of your deer stand or blind, and that you're ready to drag your kill out of the woods. "This may be the first and only time that you're getting out for the year outside hiking."

King says that every year they have a few hunters who have medical emergencies while out in the woods. Be sure that your friends and family know where you're going and when you'll be back, and bring a cell phone with you in case of an emergency.
