Neillsville School Board Approves 2021-22 Tax Levy

The Neillsville School Board approved the 2021-22 tax levy.

The Board approved setting a Fund 10 tax levy of $4,100,000 and a Fund 80 tax levy of $75,000 for a total tax levy of $4,175,000 for the 2021-2022 school year.

The Board also approved the November operational plan and calendar as presented and approved the speech services contract as presented. The Board also heard from Lance Gregorich, project manager from CESA 10, along with Building and Grounds Director Mark Spencer, regarding an update on prioritizing building repairs and upgrades.

The Board then approved the replacement of the field house boiler system through Complete Control, bypassing the bid process due to equipment availability. The Board also approved the Start College Now application for two students as presented.

The Board also approved the out of state field trip from Jodi Rueth to take high school choir students to Decorah, Iowa and approved the out of state field trip from Jodi Rueth and Jeremy LaMont to take the high school choir and band to Florida.

The Board also approved the monetary donation of $500 from Patricia Zager as presented and approved the donation from Embroidery Express of Colby to the art department as presented.

The Board also approved the hiring of Esmeralda Recendez as a teaching assistant, approved the hiring of Jesse Bernhagen as a middle school basketball coach, and approved the hiring of Brian Waters as an assistant track coach. They also approved the resignation of Josh Zahl from his assistant basketball coaching position.

The Board also heard the Administrators’ Report. Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze reported on attendance, social emotional learning, October's character trait, STEM curriculum available through CESA 10, Walk to School Day, a visit by Schools Cubed, field trips, and the success of Thorp School District's reading program.

Middle School Principal Kory Poeschel reported on attendance, Homecoming week, picture retakes, PBIS/SEL, 6th grade field trip, parent/teacher conferences, October late start, middle school sports, author's visit, and flu shots.

High School Principal Craig Anderson reported on attendance, a blood drive, music department news, accounting class business visits, guidance office updates, and fall sports.

District Administrator John Gaier reported on Wisconsin School Board Week, National School Lunch Week, CVTC president tour, Rural Schools Conference presentation, thank you cards, district statements for the school report card, supply chain shortages, shipping crisis update, social media report card, Neillsville Improvement Corporation update, updates regarding education bills, a message from State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly, and the Milwaukee school voucher program.
