Greenwood Scores in Top 30% on Niche's 2022 Wisconsin School Ranking Information

The Greenwood School Board heard an update on the District’s COVID mitigation operations.
Year to date the district has seen 7 positive covid-19 cases. This has resulted in very few quarantined students/staff. The Board also received an update on state assessment results from administration.
All results are not set for public release yet, but early review of the data has been encouraging. In addition, 2022 Wisconsin school ranking information from the following Niche website was shared: https://www.niche.com/k12/search/best-schools/s/wisconsin/.
The Greenwood School District ranked 113 out of 384, top 30%, receiving a grade of B+. The Greenwood High School ranked 211 out of 723, top 30%, receiving a grade of B. Finally, the Greenwood Elementary School ranked 181 out of 1,848, top 10%, receiving a grade of A-.
The Board received an update on active projects, maintenance and repair. The Board also received a 2021-22 budget update from Ms. Zimmer and approved the bids for new bleachers for the West Gym and acoustical tiles for the East Gym.
The Board also tabled the discussion of the 2021-22 District Priorities. The Board also received an update on staffing. Currently, the district has no open positions.
The Board also received information on incentive ideas for substitute teacher compensation and discussed whether to provide Covid leave for staff. No action was taken and the item will be revisited at the November meeting. The Board also accepted time and materials to paint the goalposts on the football field and the practice field from Steve and Lori Travis.
The Board also approved one volunteer and approved Valrie Behrens as a Support Staff-Substitute, Steve Geisthardt as an eSports coach, Michele Green as an eSports coach, Bob Lenz as a middle school assistant football coach, Dylan North as the Varsity Boys basketball coach, Kandice Schoolmaster as a Special Education assistant, and Mary Wilichowski as a Support Staff-Substitute.
The Board also heard the various committee reports. Board Member Mark Shain reported the CESA board will meet again on October 14th and the Transportation and Safety Committee met on September 30th.
Elementary Principal Mark Green provided an update on the Outdoor Classroom. This project is nearing completion. The annual Pumpkin Contest is underway. Students decorate pumpkins to look like their favorite book characters.
Picture Day went very well with the new photographer. Last week there was a great turnout at the fall parent-teacher conferences. The district will resume sending staff to quality conferences and workshops.
Athletic Director Jenny Maynschein reported on fall sports. Middle School football and volleyball seasons wrapped up on October 12th. The High School football team plays its last regular season game on Friday, October 15th. It is also the Homecoming Game.
The High School volleyball team has completed the regular season with the “Dig Pink”/Fight Cancer Night on October 7th. This was the most successful “Dig Pink” event to date. More than $3,400 was raised.
These funds will be shared with two Greenwood families who are battling cancer. A big Thank You to all individuals and businesses that donated gift baskets for the raffle and to everyone that helped to make the “Dig Pink”/Fight Cancer a great evening.
The inaugural eSports season will start very soon. Finally, this is Homecoming Week. Hallways have been decorated, dress-up days are set, and student spirit activities are planned for Friday afternoon, including the introduction of the Homecoming Court.
The Homecoming Parade is at 2:45 pm with Football at 7:00 pm. The Homecoming Dance is Saturday from 7:00-11:00 pm with Grand March scheduled for 9:00 pm.
District Administrator Todd Felhofer provided an update on proposed bills being discussed in Madison. If any of these bills are passed by the Assembly they are likely to be vetoed by the governor.
The 3rd Friday in September enrollment snapshot was 399 students. That is up 12 students from September 2020. Finally, during the Communications portion of the meeting, two members of the public were present as was a reporter from The Clark County Press.
One member of the public spoke in favor of the district using ESSER funds to pay-off debt.
