(Bob Hague, WRN) Governor Tony Evers announces 45 million dollars of the state’s American Rescue Act money will go to violence prevention and to help victims of crime.
During a Milwaukee press conference Wednesday, Evers pledged the money will get out ASAP. “We always have this push-pull at the state level, where we need to get it out but we need to make sure we’re using it appropriately. And we will do this as quickly as possible, we anticipate the money will get out within weeks.”
Reggie Moore, Director of Violence Prevention Policy and Engagement for the Medical College of Wisconsin says it’s welcome. “Understand that violence is a preventable public health crisis, but is also a disease that we can stop the prevention of, and that we have to invest in prevention, not only at the beginning, but we have to invest throughout, and ensure that that investment is sustainable.”
The funding includes 8 million dollars for Milwaukee’s Office of Violence Prevention. Evers announced the money at a Milwaukee press conference on Wednesday.
