Wisconsin's Fertilizer Research Council Providing Funds for UW Research Projects

Tuesday, October 12th, 2021 -- 10:00 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) The Wisconsin Fertilizer Research Council is providing over $100,000 for University of Wisconsin research projects.

According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, that's according to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, which stated researchers will use the funding to study soil management, soil fertility, plant nutrition, surface and groundwater quality, and other activities that promote the correct use of fertilizer.

Coordinators say projects directly benefit farmers and the results are shared to help make decisions about fertilizer application. Research projects range from evaluating sustainable crop production in Wisconsin to studying the growth and nutrient uptake patterns of russet varieties of potato.

The Wisconsin Fertilizer Research Council receives funding from the tonnage fees on fertilizer sales. DATCP collects tonnage fees at a rate of 62-cents for every ton of fertilizer sold, which helps fund the check-off program.
