Republican Legislators Want to End Elections for Three State Offices

(Bob Hague, WRN) A pair of Republican legislators want to end elections for three of Wisconsin’s executive offices.
The Journal Sentinel reports the proposal from Appleton Senator Roger Roth and Two Rivers Representative Shae Sortwell would amend the state constitution, to make the offices of state superintendent, treasurer and secretary of state appointees of the governor.
All three are currently held by Democrats and a ballot question to eliminate the office of treasurer failed just three years ago. Like that effort, eliminating the elected positions would need to pass two consecutive sessions of the Legislature before going to voters.
