The Clark County Health Department is warning that our local hospitals are filling up quickly with patients infected with COVID-19.

As of Monday, September 27th, Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield has 44 hospitalized patients admitted because of COVID-19, compared to 33 on September 21st. 93% of those patients are not fully vaccinated.

They have 15 patients with COVID-19 in their Medical Intensive Care Unit, including six patients under 45. This accounts for 100% of the patients currently in their 16-bed MICU. All of these patients are not fully vaccinated.

3 pediatric patients have been admitted because of COVID-19, including two teenagers and an infant. 1 COVID-19 patient is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Many of their hospitalized COVID-19 patients waited too long before seeking care.

Please do not ignore your symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you have symptoms. The Clark County Health Department says no matter what your thoughts have been regarding COVID-19 during this pandemic, our hospitals are filling up, and this affects everyone.

Heart attacks, traumas, emergent surgeries, etc., cannot be treated/conducted if our hospitals become full. If hospitals fill up, they will start diverting patients to other hospitals that may not be local. Other areas in Wisconsin are starting to see this.

Need an emergent appendectomy (removal of your appendix)? You (or your family member) may need to go a few hundred miles away (or more) from home to seek this care if your local hospital is full.

The Health Department asks that everyone do their part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and now, just as importantly, prevent overloads at our local hospitals. Stay home when sick (isolate), quarantine when exposed, wash your hands, wear a face covering, get vaccinated, etc.
