CORONER: DRIVER DRUNK IN DECEMBER DOUBLE FATALITY

Saturday, January 14th, 2006 -- 8:43 AM

Toxicology reports show the driver who caused a double-fatality crash near Humbird was drunk. The two-vehicle crash occurred December 7th on USH 12, just south of Humbird.

Investigators say a Jeep driven by a 41-year-old Neillsville man crossed the centerline striking a northbound van. The driver of the Jeep and the driver of the van, a 37-year-old Humbird woman, were killed instantly. A passenger in the Jeep was transported for treatment of injuries. Clark County Coroner Richard Schleifer says an autopsy determined the Neillsville man?s blood-alcohol content was .203, well over twice the legal limit of .08.

Chief Deputy Jim Backus of the Clark County Sheriff?s department says that tragic crash should serve as a very stark reminder: Don?t drink and drive.

Alcohol was a factor in four of Clark County?s seven traffic fatalities in
2005.
