Wisconsin Attorney General Renews Call for New Gun Laws
Friday, September 24th, 2021 -- 8:01 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) Attorney General Josh Kaul is renewing a call for new gun laws in the state.
The Democrat, who's up for reelection next year, joined Democratic legislators to call for a "red flag law." "The law we're proposing limits who can request it. So it would need to be a law enforcement officer or a family member."
Democrats also want universal background checks for all gun purchases. "If somebody's making an online purchase of a firearm and evading a background check that way Or of they're buying a gun at a private gun show."
Kaul noted Republicans seem to have other priorities. "There's 600-thousand dollars being spent on an investigation into conspiracy theories. There are hearings on conspiracy theories. Let's address real issues that Wisconsinites are actually facing, and work to make our communities safer."
Kaul was referring to an ongoing Republican review of the 2020 election. Neither of the gun control proposals have received any support from Republican legislators.
