Wisconsin Department of Health Services Says Vaccination Will Help Protect Kids

Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 -- 11:01 AM

(Bob Hague, WRN) State Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake says getting vaccinated against COVID-19 will help protect kids under 12 who are too young to get the shot and everyone else who's not vaccinated.

"Kids live in families, and families live in communities. When kids get sick from COVID-19, they can spread it to others like family members and friends and relatives who may not be vaccinated, even if the kids themselves don't have symptoms or don't become terribly sick."

Timberlake confirmed cases of COVID-19 among kids are continuing to increase across Wisconsin. "For kids who can get vaccinated, children ages 12 and older, we need to make sure that we're getting our kids vaccinated. And it's also critical that everyone who is working with kids, especially younger kids who are not eligible to be vaccinated, get vaccinated themselves as soon as possible."

Timberlake says getting everyone who's eligible vaccinated is the surest way to ensure a safe learning environment, now that kids are back in school.
