A Jackson County man charged with firing a weapon at a deputy appeared in Jackson County Court on Wednesday.
Back in March, a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy went to the home of Gary Hughes for a felony probation warrant. He told the deputy that he wasn’t going back to jail, pulled out a weapon, and fired at the deputy. This began a 15 hour standoff with Hughes.
Hughes managed to escape, but was located a few days later. Hughes is facing charges of attempted 1st degree intentional homicide, 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, failure to comply with an officer, threat to a law enforcement officer, and a felon possessing a firearm.
During his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, probable cause was found so his court proceedings will continue. He entered a not guilty plea to the charges against him. He’s scheduled to be back in court on October 6th.
