Greenwood School Board Provides Administration With Direction on Contact Tracing

The Greenwood School Board provided Administration with some direction on how to proceed with contact tracing.
The Board discussed close contact tracing and quarantines and reviewed the 14-day, 10-day and 7-day quarantine models and requirements and limitations of each. The Board also directed administration to use the following guidelines for contact tracing.
If close contacts are requested by the Clark County Health Department within eight days of the exposure to other students, the district will provide them with a close contact list using the CCHD recommendations.
If the close contacts are not requested within eight days of the exposure, the district will not do contact tracing at school. The Board also received a report on Summer School attendance and the number of full time equivalency students is 18.
The number was higher than usual due the “jump start” days on August 30-31. The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Personal Development resources for 2021-22, received an update on summer projects, maintenance and repair, and discussed whether to go forward with the RFP process with CESA 10 including an engineering firm.
The Board also directed administration to go forward with the RFP process utilizing CESA 10 only, approved the 2020-2021 Budget Adjustments, and received a 2021-22 budget update from Ms. Zimmer.
The Board also reviewed bids for new bleachers for the west gym, basket backstops/safety straps for the west gym, and acoustical tiles for the east gym. The Board then approved a bid for the basket backstops/safety straps for west gym and tabled action on the bleachers and acoustical tile bids until the October meeting.
The Board also approved the Second Reading of the NEOLA policy update 30-1, and received a draft of the District Priorities for 2021-22 to review for the October meeting.
The Board also received an update on staffing. Currently, the district has 1 Special Education Assistant position posted and is looking for more substitute teachers. The Board also discussed whether to provide Covid leave for staff, but no action was taken.
The Board directed Administration to consult with the attorney regarding the offering of such leave. The Board also accepted a donation of Knit hats and fleece jackets from Valeria Arch.
The Board accepted the resignation of Brad Helsten as the Boys Basketball Coach and Cindy Wildish Rasmussen as the Assistant Volleyball Coach. The Board approved the hiring of Ashley Holland as a 4K Assistant/Kids Club Supervisor, Abigail Rowan as a 5K Assistant/Kids Club Supervisor, Kaylee Rinehart as a Kids Club Student Helper, Breanna Schuck as a Kids Club Student Helper, and Whitney Baehr as a Substitute Teacher.
The Board also approved a FBLA trip to FBLA National Leadership Conference. The Board also heard the various reports. Board Member Mark Shain reported on the CESA board. Elementary Principal Joe Green provided an update on the start of the school year at the elementary school.
Kids Club is back and running well. Enrollment in the program has been capped at 45 students due to staffing limitations and a waiting list has been started. The 4K program is now running full days and 6th Grade Band is back.
District Administrator Todd Felhofer offered congratulations to Board Member Dawn Jacobson on reaching Level 1 in the WASB member recognition program. A recent article on school mascots was shared with the Board.
Planning is underway for bringing back the Veterans Day Program in November. District enrollment is up 4 students. The district received approval from the DPI allowing 3 of their Agriculture courses to provide a .25 science credit equivalency.
The presentation Rachel’s Challenge tool place on September 10th. This was an excellent program focused on kindness and respect. Finally, during the communication from the public portion of the meeting, a resident suggested that the district spend the federal money on paying off any debt.
