With Increasing COVID Cases, Few ICU Beds Available in Hospitals
Thursday, September 9th, 2021 -- 10:00 AM
(Bob Hague, WRN) As the number of people hospitalized in Wisconsin with COVID-19 remains around 1,000, available intensive care beds are in the single digits in much of the state.
The Journal Sentinel reports that only three ICU beds were available Wednesday in the 12-county north-central region that includes Wausau, according to data from the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
In the northeast region, which includes Green Bay, seven ICU beds were open. In the northwest region, one ICU bed was open; in the western region, three.
The number of COVID-19 patients in Wisconsin, as well as those in intensive care, has risen rapidly over the last month or so as the delta variant causes a surge.
