HIGHWAY 10 CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN SOON
Thursday, January 5th, 2006 -- 3:03 PM
Construction of a 4-lane Highway 10 from Stevens Point to Marshfield will begin this summer. The much-anticipated upgrade will be complete by 2012 and will make the venerable highway four lanes from Marshfield to Appleton. The Marshfield News Herald quotes the project leader as saying everything is on track and that an environmental impact study is being finalized for Wood County.
The 31-mile stretch of highway will have a 65 mph speed limit and bypass the small communities of Junction City, Blenker, Milladore and Auburndale.
Current DOT plans do not include expanding Highway 10 to four lanes from Marshfield to Osseo. That worries some community leaders west of Marshfield. A group spearheaded by Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy and former State Senator Tom Harnisch has been pushing for enumeration for that segment of highway.
