CHIPPEWA COUNTY SEARCH CLOAKED IN MYSTERY
Wednesday, January 4th, 2006 -- 4:19 PM
The Chippewa County Sheriff?s Department has shed a bit more light on an evidence search that shut down traffic on Tuesday afternoon.Sheriff Douglas Ellis says dive teams acted on tips when they searched the Chippewa River Tuesday. Witnesses say they were searching an area beneath a County Road ?TT? bridge.
In a press release issued Wednesday afternoon, Ellis says they were looking for evidence of a crime that was committed in the county in the past year. He said he couldn?t comment further and conditions would determine if and when additional attempts would be made to locate the evidence.
There?s been speculation the search could be tied to the investigation into the death of Christine Rudy. The Thorp woman went missing November 12th, investigators announced in December they recovered her remains, but didn?t say where they were located or what condition they were in. While they said it appears she did not die of natural causes, they are still waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Clark County Sheriff Louis Rosandich told us yesterday there are no active searches in Clark County tied to the case, but said he ?could not confirm nor deny? that searches were taking place in other jurisdictions. Rosandich said investigators have been in constant contact with the Clark County District Attorney?s office. Rosandich confirmed the investigation continues to move forward and investigators had not reached a ?dead end?.
