(Terry Bell, WRN) Wisconsin tribal leaders have filed a brief in support of lawsuits seeking to put grey wolves back under federal protection.
John Johnson is chairman of the Voigt Intertribal Task Force. He says tribes are supposed to have a 50-percent say over resources in the Ceded Territory, but that has never happened.
The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board has set a quota of 300 wolves to be killed in this fall’s hunting season, even though the D-N-R’s own scientists recommend a quota of 130. The grey wolf plays an important role in Ojibwe culture.
