LOYAL BOARD SETS DEADLINE
Thursday, December 29th, 2005 -- 11:49 AM
It looks like there soon may be a final decision on the much talked about ?consolidation feasibility study? between two area schools. This week?s TRG reports the Loyal Board of Education has given the Greenwood School Board until January 15th to agree to hire an outside agency to conduct the study. Both boards long ago approved a joint exploration of the benefits, pitfalls and logistics of a consolidation, but haven?t been able to agree on the method used to conduct such a study. Loyal?s Board desires a one-firm study, while Greenwood apparently would prefer a multi-agency study.
At a recent meeting, Loyal?s board gave Greenwood until January 15th to agree to one overall study, or move forward without the option of consolidation.
Greenwood has been meeting jointly and separately with the Loyal and Neillsville school boards. Earlier this month, the Neillsville school board tabled action on joining a consolidation feasibility study with Greenwood. School board President Walter Wetzel said they wanted to gauge the district?s opinion of such a study during a January 9th meeting that will be treated as a public hearing.
