A former Marshfield newsman will be honored this evening as one of four individuals to be inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this year.
Longtime WDLB News Director Thom Gerretsen will be recognized for his contributions to broadcasting throughout his career at a ceremony in Sheboygan. Thom began as a reporter in Janesville in 1974 and became News Director for a Portage radio station the following year.
He joined Goetz broadcasting in 1978 as a reporter for WDLB and was later promoted as News Director in 1986. In addition to news, he covered sporting events for the company’s various statewide radio networks for many years, including Bucks, Brewers, Badgers, and Green Bay Packer Games.
After a brief stint at the Marshfield News-Herald in the early 2000s, Thom was named Chief Editor of Wheeler News Service in 2002, where he wrote state-wide news copy for dozens of radio stations across the state.
Gerretsen retired from journalism in 2017. He continues to reside in Marshfield with his wife, Jean.
